ABOUT: CAICAN
Digital collages made of photos showing well-known people. The cut-out parts are intact and can be identified. No morphing or superimposing. The works have their origins in the development of the computer. This project was inspired by the software technology made available in affordable personal computers. I got in touch with the first version of Photoshop when taking a course in computer graphics in Los Angeles in 1991. In the project, I created a series of ”brand new people” that seemed interesting to me and whose pictures were visually convincing. The titles pick up on the first associated attribute that comes to mind when seeing and hearing about the different characters. Mixed together suggested a new persona, a more complicated one.
The solid steel frames, coarsely welded together, refer to the “non-digital world”, in contrast to the synthetic seamless welding in the computer. ”CAICAN” is an anagram that of Carin Carlsson, also a brand of artificially created figures.
